GrimDeeper was contracted to perform third-party turbidity monitoring on this St. Lucie Inlet (“SLI”) Maintenance Dredging 7-Foot Entrance Channel and Impoundment Basin project. USACE is the contracting officer, in partnership with The Martin County Board of County Commissioners, and The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC (“GLDD”) is the prime dredging contractor.
The SLI Maintenance Dredging 7-Foot Entrance Channel and Impoundment Basin project involves the mechanical dredging, using the clamshell dredger “G.L. 54”, of approximately 389,000 cubic yards of material from the SLI, entrance channel and impoundment basin into one (1) of three (3) scows. The scow is then transported by 1 of 3 towing vessels to the offshore storage discharge site, approximately 10.5 nautical miles South of the SLI. The scow is discharged at the offshore storage discharge site for utilization on future storm protection and restoration projects.
