GrimDeeper was contracted to perform third-party turbidity monitoring on this inlet maintenance dredging project. USACE is the contracting officer, in partnership with The Martin County Board of County Commissioners, and The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Norfolk Dredging Company is the prime dredging contractor.
The St. Lucie Inlet (SLI) Maintenance Dredging Project involves the mechanical dredging, using the clamshell dredger “Virginian”, of approximately 550,000 cubic yards of material from the SLI, entrance channel and impoundment basin into a scow. The scow is then transported by a towing vessel to the offshore storage placement area, approximately 11-miles South of the SLI. The scow is discharged at the offshore storage placement area for utilization on future storm protection and restoration projects.
