GrimDeeper was contracted to perform third-party turbidity monitoring on this South Ponte Vedra Beach Dune Restoration dredging project in St. Johns County, Florida. St. Johns County is the contracting officer, in partnership with The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), and homeowners. Weeks Marine, Inc is the prime dredging contractor.
The South Ponte Vedra Beach Dune Restoration dredging project involves the hydraulic dredging, using the trailing suction hopper dredges “R.N. Weeks” and “B.E. Lindholm”, of approximately 775,000 cubic yards of material from the offshore borrow area and then pumped to the beach using three (3) different submerged pipelines. Approximately 5.5 miles of the beach, beginning at approximately 1.3 miles North of Guana River Road moving South to Serenata Beach (in front of Serenata Ocean Villas), will be restored, including dune restoration and plantings.
