South Boca Raton Beach Renourishment

Date: March 2017

GrimDeeper was contracted to perform third-party turbidity monitoring on this beach renourishment and protection project. The City of Boca Raton was the customer, in partnership with The Greater Beach & Park District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and Palm Beach County. Weeks Marine, Inc. was the prime dredging contractor.

The South Boca Raton Beach Renourishment was an add-on project that involved the dredging and placement of approximately 121,000 cubic yards of material to fill approximately 1,200 linear feet of shoreline south of the Boca Inlet, utilizing the Cutter Suction Dredge (CSD) “C.R. McCASKILL”. The material was mined from the ebb shoal of Boca Inlet, which provided some benefits to navigability through the Boca Inlet. Turbidity monitoring included sampling at the dredge (borrow area) and beach fill sites, three times daily (12-hour schedule).
