Sebastian, Florida ICWW Maintenance Dredging, 12-Foot Project, Indian River

Date: January 2015 – June 2015

GrimDeeper was contracted to perform third-party turbidity monitoring on this Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) maintenance dredging project located in Sebastian, Florida on the Indian River. USACE was the contracting officer. Cavache, Inc was the prime dredging contractor.

The project involved the dredging, utilization of the Cutter-Suction Dredge(s) (CSD) “Michelle” and “Maya Caelyn”, and placement of approximately 300,000 cubic yards of shoaled material from the ICWW (Wabasso bridge to Sebastian Inlet – approximately 5 nautical miles) to the Dredged Material Management Area (DMMA) operated by the Florida Inland Navigation District (F.I.N.D.). Due to the length of pipeline required, four (4) booster pumps were added in-line to successfully pump the material. Turbidity monitoring included sampling at the dredge site, discharge, and seagrass beds on a 12-hour basis twice daily.
